Overview

Located in the heart of Malacca’s Taman Kota Laksamana, 璂璂茶餐室 Seven Happiness Restaurant offers a humble yet memorable kopitiam experience that centers around one specialty: mee hon kueh. This unassuming coffee shop, nestled along Jalan KLJ 6, is a destination for those in search of authentic, well-crafted local fare that pays homage to traditional flavors.

The restaurant’s signature dishes—especially the Claypot Lei Cha mee hon kueh and the Tomyam mee hon kueh—stand out for their bold, refreshing character. The Lei Cha version features a bright, herbal soup base with a distinctive earthiness, complemented by perfectly chewy kueh that provides a satisfying bite. While its generous portions may not appeal to everyone, fans of rich, comforting broths will find it a worthy experience.

Equally notable is the Tomyam dry mee hon kueh, a favorite among visitors seeking a more vibrant taste. Unlike the usual tomyam offerings heavy on chili and shrimp paste, this rendition features a delicate balance of sour notes from lime, harmonizing with fragrant kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, and the subtle warmth of kunyit. Its absence of intense spiciness makes it approachable while retaining complexity. For those craving umami, the dry minced meat and mushroom mee hon kueh delivers a gentle earthiness without overpowering saltiness, emphasizing fresh ingredients and balanced seasoning.

In terms of ambiance, Seven Happiness Restaurant embraces simplicity. The space reflects the classic kopitiam charm—basic seating and a relaxed vibe that welcomes locals and travelers alike. The modest décor reinforces the focus on quality food rather than elaborate presentation. This straightforward setting complements the communal, laid-back dining experience preferred by families and casual diners who appreciate genuine flavors without fuss.

Beyond the taste, the restaurant is known for its attentive service, although patrons should be prepared for occasional waits during busy breakfast hours. The place attracts a broad audience—from food enthusiasts intrigued by its reputation, to loyal customers drawn by consistent quality. It’s a spot well-suited for those who enjoy traditional Malaysian-Peranakan culinary staples presented with care and authenticity.

In summary, Seven Happiness Restaurant is a refreshing find for anyone eager to explore well-executed mee hon kueh dishes with unique soup bases. Its focus on fresh ingredients, balanced flavors, and a welcoming kopitiam atmosphere make it a notable stop in Malacca’s vibrant food scene, promising a genuine taste of local heritage in every bowl.

Saw some friends posted about this meehoonkueh being absolutely superb, and they do not disappoint! This kopitiam sells noodles, and some rice sets. Very humble and basic settings. Tomyam dry meehoonkueh (not in menu, but on the wall poster) was very appetising it caught us off guard! At first bite, the sourness from the lime juice really was dancing on our tongues! It wasn't like typical tomyam gong kinda mouthwatering aromatic, but more of the kunyit, kaffir leaves, lemongrass fragrance kinda sourness. Not spicy at all! Dry minced meat mushroom meehoonkueh was alright for me, it wasn't heavy on the soysauce or oyster sauce, not salty, more earthy rich from the flavours of the mushrooms. Meehoonkueh itself was not too thick nor thin, I'd say enough thickness but not too tough or thick that it's overly chewy, but I prefer it to be thinner and more bouncy if possible. Price wise still consider cheap. Definitely will come back to try other dishes. The wine meesuah smells heavenly.

A fix 4 star place for food. I do recommend the tomyum version to anyone who like sour and spicy. The leicha version is either you love it or hate it as you will get easily sick of it due to the portions are big. Do take not if you are coming for breakfast, the wait can take up to 30 minutes.
